What is the Data Classification Toolkit?

The Data Classification Toolkit for Windows Server® 2008 R2 works in conjunction with the Windows Server 2008 R2 File Classification Infrastructure to help provide insight to stored information and how to manage file storage more efficiently and effectively. The Data Classification Toolkit contains classification knowledge and scripted processes that help automate the file classification process and help make file management more efficient.

The Data Classification Toolkit for Windows Server 2008 R2 only works with files stored in Windows Server 2008 R2 with File Classification Infrastructure. Files stored in other technologies or products, such as Microsoft® SharePoint® 2010, are not supported.

Note   The Data Classification Toolkit for Windows Server 2008 R2 requires Windows Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1 (SP1). Unless otherwise specified, all references to Windows Server 2008 R2 imply Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1.

 

Install and Import the IT Compliance Management Library Management Pack (optional)

The Data Classification Toolkit for Windows Server 2008 R2 contains an IT Compliance Management Library Management Pack for the IT GRC Process Management Pack for Microsoft System Center Service Manager 2010. This pack contains the manual control activities for Windows Server 2008 R2 File Classification Infrastructure that support control objectives in the IT GRC Process Management Pack. This Management Pack is imported into System Center Service Manager.

Note   If you are not planning to integrate the Data Classification Toolkit for Windows Server 2008 R2 with the IT GRC Process Management Pack for Microsoft System Center Service Manager 2010, you may skip the installation instructions that relate to the IT Compliance Management Library Management Pack.
